Coach Calhoun to Add 5K Walk to The 2010 Jim Calhoun Cancer Challenge Ride

|

Jim Calhoun today announced that he is adding a 5K walk and a 75-mile segment to the ride for the Jim Calhoun Cancer Challenge event scheduled for June 12, 2010, in Simsbury. He also announced he is changing the name of the event to the Jim Calhoun Cancer Challenge Ride and Walk.

The event raises money for the University of Connecticut Health Center’s Carol and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center and “Coaches vs. Cancer”.

The ride and walk will include a 5K walk and rides of 10, 25, 50, and 75 miles. Each rider and walker will be encouraged to raise dollars for the cause. The event itself will focus on health education with information on cancer prevention and detection presented throughout the day.

The walk portion of the Jim Calhoun Cancer Challenge Ride and Walk is dedicated in part to the memory of Doris Davis, of Bloomfield, whose life-long dedication to selflessly helping others is an inspiration to all involved. Doris was the wife of Bill Davis, a founding partner of the Hartford law firm of RisCassi and Davis. The firm, along with Cigna, is the presenting sponsor of the event. NBC Connecticut is the title sponsor.
